About Steve Stone
Steven Stone is a retired major league pitcher and current sportscaster and author. As a receipient of the Al Cy Young Award in 1980, an annual award given to the best pitchers in the MLB, Stone bettered many teams before earning this award. Debuting with the San Francisco Giants in 1971, Stone continued to keep the ball rolling (literally) with the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Baltimore Orioles throughout his professional career. Stone was also drafted by the Cleveland Indians a year before he decided to sign with the San Francisco Giants. Throughout his ten years in the major leagues, Stone obtained a total of 1,065 strikeouts. After retiring from the MLB, he made the transition to the broadcasting booth, becoming a color commentator for fourteen years for the WGN television broadcasts of the Chicago Cubs. Although retiring from broadcasting in 2000 due to health reasons, Stone is still to this day widely considered one of the best Jewish pitchers in major league history.
