About Thomas Bach
Thomas Bach is a former Olympic fencer and the current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Bach competed in fencing and won a gold medal in the team event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. After retiring from competition, Bach earned a law degree and built a career in sports governance. He served as President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) from 2000 to 2013 and held various IOC roles, including Vice President. In 2013, he was elected IOC President, succeeding Jacques Rogge, and has been re-elected multiple times, most recently in 2021 for a term until 2025. Under his leadership, the IOC has navigated major challenges, including the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to COVID-19, the introduction of the Refugee Olympic Team, gender equality initiatives, and the inclusion of new sports such as breaking and skateboarding, all while maintaining the prestige of the Olympic Games.
