Thomas Heilman

Thomas Heilman entered the world on February 7, 2007, in Crozet, Virginia, and he is quickly becoming a prominent figure in American swimming. He stands at 6′2″ and specializes in butterfly, freestyle, and individual medley events as he trains with Cavalier Aquatics and plans to swim for the University of Virginia after graduation.

The 14-year-old Heilman gained national recognition when he broke 14 National Age Group records during a span of more than a week. The 100-yard butterfly and 200 fly and 200 IM events have multiple records that Heilman holds while he achieved the distinction of becoming the youngest American to break 50 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

At the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships Heilman won six medals while setting a world junior record in the 4×100 freestyle relay during his international competition. Heilman won gold in the 400-medley relay and secured multiple medals at U.S. trials and junior nationals.

At the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka Heilman achieved the distinction of being the youngest swimmer among the fastest Americans in the 200 fly when he finished fourth with a 1:53.82 and secured a relay gold medal. He secured two Olympic spots at the Paris 2024 games as the youngest male U.S. swimmer since Michael Phelps did the same.

At Paris 2024 Heilman joined the youngest U.S. male Olympians by helping the medley relay team secure silver while competing in butterfly events as an individual.
