About Virginia Wade
Virginia Wade is one of the most successful female tennis players of all time, competing professionally from 1968-1986. In her first year of professional play, Wade beat Billie Jean King in the first US Open womens singles final, giving Wade her first Grand Slam victory. Throughout her career, Wade went on to win 3 out of 4 Grand Slam as a single while making it to the No. 2 ranked player in the World. Wade also won 3 Grand Slams in doubles competition, becoming the first British female to win at all 4 Grand Slam events. She won 55 singles titles throughout her career and was consistently ranked in the top 10 of the world standings from 1967-1979. Following her playing career, Wade served as a reporter for BBCs tennis coverage as well as a coach for several years. She was honored as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1986 and in 1989 was elected into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
