About Yvan Cournoyer
Hall of Famer Yvan Cournoyer is a Montreal Canadiens legend. Cournoyer played all 16 NHL seasons in Montreal and went to the playoffs 12 times. In 1973, he scored 15 postseason goals and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup. Overall, he came out on top in ten Stanley Cups, which is the second most all-time. During his final four seasons in Montreal, Cournoyer was a team captain and won a championship each year. His key counting stats all still rank in the top ten in franchise history. Cournoyer was dubbed the “Roadrunner” and was beloved for his speed and tenacity. The Quebec native began in professional hockey with the Montreal Junior Canadiens in the Ontario Hockey Association in 1961. Following his playing career, Cournoyer briefly was a coach and remains a special ambassador for the Canadiens. The franchise retired his #12 jersey in 2005.
