In the lead-up to Super Bowl 50, several legendary players have been returning to their high schools to honor their contribution to the history of football. Former wide receiver Torry Holt was one of the latest players to do this when he went back to Eastern Guilford High School in Gibsonville, North Carolina.
Holt's visit was featured on CBS This Morning last week. He presented Eastern Guilford with a Wilson Golden Football.
Every school that had a player or coach active in a Super Bowl receives one of the footballs. The NFL Foundation also provides the schools with new character education curriculum and chance to apply for grants totalling up to $5000.
Holt won a Super Bowl XXXIV and spent most of his standout career with the St. Louis Rams. In 11 NFL seasons, he was a seven-time Pro Bowler and had six consecutive seasons with over 1,300 receiving yards.
In 2000 and 2003, Holt led the NFL in receiving yards. He retired ranked 10th all-time in the category in league history.
Holt's name will always be prominently remembered as a member of the Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf". Playing in the electrifying offense helped him become the fatest player in NFL history to 11,000 receiving yards.
In retirement, Holt runs Holt Brothers Construction in Raleigh, North Carolina with his brother and former NFL player Terrence. The duo also teams up to run their foundation and operate camps in the local community.
