The Las Vegas Review-Journal is hosting their Best of Nevada Preps Awards on June 3rd. They have announced that Pro Football Hall of Famer Marcus Allen will keynote the event.
This year, the ceremony is taking place at a new spot, The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian. The activities for the second annual event take place from 7 to 9 p.m.
Allen will help hand out awards to some of the state's best student-athletes, including boys and girls athletes of the year. The event is closed to the public.
Allen rushed for 12,243 yards over a 16-year career spent with the Los Angeles Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. He set a then-league record with 123 rushing touchdowns.
Allen was a pioneer at his position, becoming the first player to total over 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro.
In 1985, Allen rushed for a career-high 1,759 yards on the way to NFL MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. A year prior, he led the Raiders to the Super Bowl and was MVP of the game.
