NFL legend Marcus Allen grew up playing quarterback and safety and was recruited by the University of Southern California to play defensive back, and had things worked out that way his life might be a bit different right now.  As it turns out, Allen was switched to tailback during his freshman season at USC and the stars aligned.  In 1981 Allen became the first running back in NCAA history to rush for over 2,000 yards, posting an incredible 2,342 yards in route to winning the Heisman Trophy.

He’d go on to become a first round pick of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1982 and make his mark on history for the next 16 years.  In 1982 he earned NFL Rookie of the Year honors, following that up by leading the Raiders to a Super Bowl championship in 1983.  In 1985 he reached the pinnacle of individual accomplishment by earning MVP honors.  By the time his career came to an end with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1997 he had become a six time Pro-Bowl selection and the first player in NFL history to post more than 10,000 yards rushing and 5,000 yards receiving.

In 2000 Allen was honored with induction into the College Football Hall of Fame and in 2003 he was voted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  In retirement he’s flourished in a new role as a broadcaster and on-air professional and college football analyst for CBS and Fox Sports.
