The city of Houston is still celebrating their World Series-champion Astros. Local Academy Sports + Outdoors stores are hosting a series of autograph signings this week to recognize the team's accomplishments.
Astros star shortstop Carlos Correa kicked off the appearances last night with a visit to the Academy at 9734 Katy Freeway from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Pitcher Lance McCullers also held an event at the Pearland store from 7-8 p.m.
Infielder Alex Bregman will be in Webster today from 7-8:30 p.m. and three-time batting champion Jose Altuve will be at the Katy Academy location from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday. Each player is signing copies of the Houston Chronicle poster series and the passes for the free autographs are distributed two hours before each event starts.
Correa became an American League All-Star for the first time in 2017. He played in just 109 regular season games, but hit .315 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI.
Correa started the season strong, being named to the World Baseball Classic All-Tournament Team. He was a strong contributor in the postseason, hitting five homers to help lead the Astros to their first World Series title.
Correa was originally the top overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. He was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2015 after hitting .279 with 22 home runs and 68 RBI.
