Youngstown State Names Former All-Star Bill Buckner Speaker for First Pitch Breakfast

One of the most notable baseball personalities of all-time is giving his time to the baseball program at Youngstown State. Former All-Star Bill Buckner is the speaker for YSU's First Pitch Breakfast.

The event takes place on February 10th at The Embassy in Boardman. In addition to Buckner's presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle, live and silent auctions and a meet and greet with the 2018 Penguins team.

General admission tickets are $25 and reserved seats are $35. There are also premium reserved tables and corporate and family tables available.

Buckner played 22 major league seasons and collected over 3,700 hits. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers before being traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1977.

With the Cubs, Buckner won the National League batting title in 1980 and was named an All-Star in 1981. He was a key player for the Boston Red Sox team that made the 1986 World Series, but is best known for a critical fielding error in Game 6 of the series.

In recent years, Buckner held several coaching positions before retiring from baseball in 2014. He is a member of the Napa High School Hall of Fame and the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame.
