About Alejandro Villanueva
Alejandro Villanueva is a standout retired football player and decorated military veteran. Villanueva certainly took the tough route to NFL glory. After a collegiate football career at Army, he served three tours in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger. Villanueva reached the rank of captain and was awarded a bronze star.
After his time in the service, Villanueva set his sights on the next goal. He went through the NFL's regional combine process before latching on with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2014 offseason. The Eagles envisioned him as a defensive lineman but cut him that August. Villanueva bulked back up to 335 pounds in order to play offensive line and spent the 2014 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad. He would flourish from there in Pittsburgh, spending seven seasons with the franchise and making Pro Bowls in 2017 and 2018. Villanueva played one final season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 before retiring the following year.
