Alonzo Mourning

One of the NBA’s greatest centers in an era of Hall of Fame big men, Alonzo Mourning is one of the most beloved Miami Heat players of all time. “Zo” also played with the Charlotte Hornets and New Jersey Nets, but he was the first player to have his number retired by the Heat. Mourning was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014. He was a two time Defensive Player of the Year, a seven time All-Star, and a gold medalist for Team USA in 2000. With 11 playoff appearances to his name, Mourning finally won his first and only NBA championship in 2006. He persevered to even continue his basketball career, fighting a life threatening kidney disease and receiving a transplant so he could return to the game. As a result, Mourning launched “Zo’s Fund For Life”, which raises funds to fight the rare disease he was diagnosed with. Since 1997, he has run the Mourning Family Foundation, which helps children and their families, and holds several high-profile events in South Florida every year. Mourning is currently the Vice President of Player Programs with the Heat.
