About Andy Kennedy
Andy Kennedy is back at his alma mater as the head men's basketball coach at UAB. Kennedy had immediate success with the Blazers program, winning over 22 games in each of his four seasons and making two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Not many coaches could match the sustained excellence of basketball Kennedy's teams had before his move to Birmingham at Ole Miss.Kennedy posted nine 20-win seasons in Oxford and is the Rebels' all-time wins leader.
Under Kennedy's watch, Ole Miss went to NCAA Tournament twice, won two SEC West titles and one SEC Tournament championship. After his first season produced a 21-13 record and the first West division triumph, Kennedy won SEC Coach of the Year.
Before arriving in Oxford, he had one season as a head coach under his belt at Cincinnati. The Bearcats won 20-plus games after Kennedy replaced Bob Huggins.
Kennedy grew as a coach with assistant jobs at Cincinnati, UAB, and South Alabama. He played collegiately at NC State and UAB. Kennedy was a two-time all-conference player for the Blazers and left as the second-leading scorer in program history. He logged time professionally as well with teams overseas and the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
