Bill Laimbeer

As a player in the NBA, Bill Laimbeer spent most of his playing years for the Detroit Pistons. The 6’11’’ center played alongside other greats in route to winning two consecutive NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990. Laimbeer was also a four time All-Star, the rebounding leader in 1986, and became the 19th player to score 10,000 points and get 10,000 rebounds. For his prowess and effectiveness on the court Bill’s number 40 was retired by the Pistons following his retirement from playing. In 1994 Bill retired from playing and after a few years trying other ventures, Bill transitioned into coaching in the WNBA. As a coach Bill led his teams to three WNBA Championships in six years and won the WNBA Coach of the Year Award in 2003. Bill left his position with the Detroit Shock in 2009 for several reasons, including his desire to become and NBA head coach. While he did not secure a head coaching position he became the assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
