About Charles Oakley
Charles Oakley was one of the most physical and intimidating basketball players of his era. Oakley attended Virginia Union University where he played basketball from 1981-85. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Oakley as the 9th overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and his rights were traded to the Chicago Bulls. In 1986, Oakley earned NBA All-Rookie Team honors. Oakley was traded to the New York Knicks in 1988. During his time with the Knicks, Oakley was known as a defensive specialist. Oakley was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 1998 and he provided a veteran presence to a young team. Oakley spent his final three seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets. Oakley was hired as the assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats on December 26, 2010, but he left that position on December 1, 2011 due to health issues.
