About Billy Hatcher
Billy Hatcher was a long-time outfielder in Major League Baseball who collected over 1,000 hits during a 12-year career. Hatcher made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs before being traded to the Houston Astros the following year. He hit a dramatic 14th inning home run for the Astros to keep them alive in Game 6 of the 1986 National League Championship Series. Hatcher followed that up with his best season in 1987. He hit .296 with 11 home runs, 63 RBI and 53 stolen bases. After spending a season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Hatcher helped the Cincinnati Reds win the 1990 World Series. He hit .519 in the postseason and .750 in the World.Series. That batting mark in the Fall Classic broke a 62-year-old record originally set by Babe Ruth. Hatcher went on to play for the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers. He began his coaching career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in their inaugural 1998 season. Hatcher came back to the Reds in 2006 and currently serves as the third base coach.
