About Bret Saberhagen
Bret Saberhagen is a retired MLB pitcher who played 17 seasons for five different teams. A highly touted high school pitcher, Saberhagen was selected in the 19th round of the 1982 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. He went on to make his MLB debut two years later, compiling a 10-11 record and a 3.48 ERA in his rookie season. The next season, Saberhagen would be a key factor to help the Royals win the 1985 World Series, winning the World Series MVP and the AL Cy Young Award after going 20 6 with a 2.87 ERA. Saberhagen would win two more All-Star nods and another Cy Young award, and he eventually was traded to the New York Mets in 1991. He would be an anchor for the Mets pitching rotation, posting multiple successful seasons with the team before joining the Colorado Rockies in 1995. Saberhagen retired in 2001 after a short stint with the Boston Red Sox.
