About Bucky Dent
Bucky Dent played 12 major league seasons with the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals from 1973 to 1984 and is best known for his playing days with the New York Yankees. Dent's legacy was etched in baseball history during the 1978 season when Dent's clutch three-run home run in a one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox secured the American League East title for the Yankees. He was part of World Series-winning New York teams in 1977 and 1978, hitting .417 in the '78 Fall Classic on the way to MVP honors.
Overall, Dent earned All-Star honors three times in his career and was one of the most athletic shortstops in the league during his era. After retiring as a player, he re-joined the Yankees organization as a minor league manager and eventually managed the big-league club in 1989 and 1990. From 1991 to 1994, he served on the St. Louis Cardinals coaching staff and then served as a coach for the Texas Rangers from 1995 to 2001. Dent finished his managerial career in 2002 as the coach of the Kansas City Royals Triple-A affiliate Omaha Royals.
