About Brett Brown
Brett Brown is a former NBA head coach who had a successful tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers. Brown gained a stellar reputation working as a San Antonio Spurs assistant coach for over a decade. His coaching career actually began in Australia, first as an assistant with the Melbourne Tigers and then as head coach with the North Melbourne Giants. Brown was named 1994 NBL Coach of the Year as the Giants won the league championship. He was also head coach of the Sydney Kings during a brief stint away from the Spurs. Brown won 278 NBL games as a head coach. He played collegiately for Rick Pitino at Boston University. Brown was a two-year captain and the Terriers made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1959 in 1983 when he was a senior. At BU, he was a graduate assistant for a year before heading to Australia. Brown also felt coaching influence from his father Bob, who coached him at South Portland High School and is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
