Brett Lawrie

Brett Lawrie is a former standout major leaguer whose Canadian roots made him a national hero. Lawrie had a great amateur career, playing his high school career with the Langley Blaze of theBritish Columbia Baseball League, playing well enoughto be drafted in the first round of the 2008 MLBDraft by Milwaukee. Lawrie played two seasons in the Brewers’organization, postingimpressive numbers and eventually being considered one of their top prospects.

In 2010, Lawrie wastraded to the Toronto Blue Jays, and he made his MLB debut one year later in a game against theBaltimore Orioles. In ashortened first season, Lawrie hit .293 with nine home runs and 25 RBI. Thisperformance was good enough for Lawrie to benamed to the Blue Jays’ 2012 roster. In just over twoseasons with the Blue Jays, Lawrie hit .265 with 43 home runs and 157 RBI,establishing him as one of thebest power hitters in the AL East. In November of 2014, the Blue Jays traded Lawrie to theOaklandAthletics in a move that brought them Josh Donaldson in return. He finished his career with the Chicago White Sox in 2016.
