About Brian Leetch
Brian Leetch is a retired NHL defenseman who spent 18 seasons in the league with the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Boston Bruins. Leetch got his start in hockey with Boston College and the United States national team, earning enough notoriety to be drafted ninth overall in the 1986 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers. Leetch made his NHL debut in 1988, finishing his rookie season with 14 points in just 17 games. In his first full seasons, Leetch scored 71 points, including an NHL rookie defenseman record of 23 goals, winning the Calder Trophy and being named to the NHL AllRookie team. In 17 seasons with the Rangers, Leetch would break almost every defensive record possible, and would help the team win one Stanley Cup Championship. He was a ten time All Star, and is considered to be one of the best defensive players in NHL history. In 2004, Leetch was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he spent one more season with the Boston Bruins before ending his storied career in 2006.
