Brian Roberts

Brian Roberts is a retired two-time All-Star second baseman who spent 14 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, primarily as a versatile, switch-hitting infielder known for his speed, doubles prowess, and loyalty to the organization. He starred at the University of South Carolina, setting SEC stolen-base records (67 in 1999) before the Baltimore Orioles drafted him 50th overall that year. Debuting in 2001, Roberts became a Baltimore staple, earning two All-Star nods (2005, 2007) and the 2009 Most Valuable Oriole Award. His breakout in 2005 featured a .314 average, 45 doubles, 15 homers, and 27 steals. He set MLB records for switch-hitter doubles in a season (56 in 2009) and amassed three 50-double campaigns. His illustrious career stats consisted of a .276 average, 97 homers, 542 RBIs, 285 steals over 1,529 games. Plagued by injuries post-2010, including concussions and back issues, he played his final year with the Yankees in 2014 before retiring. Roberts has raised over $450,000 for children's hospitals via his "Brian's Bash" charity and remains a Charm City icon.
