About Clint Hurdle
Clint Hurdle was a promising baseball prospect that was selected 9th overall in the 1975 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Predicted to be an impact player, Hurdle was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1978. Hurdle had a 10 year career in the MLB but never really amounted to the standout player he was predicted to be. After retiring with a .259 batting average, Hurdle got a job right away as the manager for the Class A St. Lucie Mets. He bounced around throughout the minor leagues until he joined the Colorado Rockies as a hitting coach in 1997. After taking over the managerial role for the Rockies in 2002, Hurdle took the Rockies to their first World Series appearance in 2007. After a few rough seasons following the World Series run in 2007, Hurdle was fired by the Rockies and just a year later was hired as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2013 Hurdle won the NL Manager of the Year Award by taking the Pirates to their first playoff appearance since 1992.
