Craig Biggio, nicknamed “The Little Big-Gio Man”, is a retired MLB player. Biggio played for the Houston Astros and the Houston Astros only for twenty years, from 1988 to 2007. He was a diverse contribution to the team, as he could hold his own at second base, in the outfield, and as a catcher. Biggio grew up in New York excelling at both baseball and football throughout his childhood. He even turned down several football scholarships out of high school to pursue his biggest dream to make it to the major leagues. Over the course of his twenty year professional career, Biggio was a seven-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove Award winner, a five-time Silver Sluggar Award winner, and a recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, which is given annualy to the sole player in the MLB that best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, and community involvement. In addition, the Astros retired Biggio’s #7 jersey after his retirement. Biggio went on to serve as a head baseball coach for a varsity high school team in Texas and still, to this date, holds the record for most times hit by a pitch in a career, with 285 and lasting bruises to show for it. Biggio continues to contribute to his community each and every day by giving to organizations such as the Sunshine Kids Foundation and many others.
