Daniel Bard is an MLB pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox from 2009-2013. Prior to his time in the MLB, Bard was a phenomenal pitcher at the University of North Carolina, spending four seasons as a Tar Heel. In his freshman season, Bard went 8-4 with a 3.88 ERA, and was named a Freshman All American and to the ACC Freshman Team. Bard experienced his best season in college during his senior season, when he went 9-4 with a 3.64 ERA, and was considered one of the top collegiate pitchers in the country. Following his graduation, Bard entered the 2006 MLB Draft, and was selected in the first round by the Boston Red Sox. Originally drafted as a starting pitcher, Bard played that position throughout the minor leagues, but he was switched to a reliever role at the end of the 2007 season. On May 13, 2009, Bard made his MLB debut in a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, pitching two scoreless innings. For the next few years, Bard would bounce between the team’s bullpen and starting rotation, posting a 10-19 record with a 3.67 ERA.
