About Dario Franchitti
Dario Franchitti is a retired professional racecar driver who competed in the IndyCar series and NASCAR for several seasons. Originally from Scotland, Franchitti began his racing career by racing karts, eventually earning enough attention to be signed to a professional CART racing contract with Hogan Racing in the Champ Car series. Franchitti would have three solid seasons for Champ Car before moving over to the IndyCar Series in 2003 with Andretti Green racing, getting his first victory at the 2004 Milwaukee Mile, with his second coming that same season at Pikes Peak. In 11 years in an IndyCar, Franchitti had 21 wins and 57 podiums, winning four championships in 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012. His success in IndyCar did not translate over to NASCAR when he made the jump in 2008, as he would have no victories and no top tens in a handful of races. Truly an IndyCar legend, Franchitti retired after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a crash at the last race of the 2013 IndyCar season, instead focusing on becoming a competition director to not risk becoming permanently paralyzed.
