About Darrell Evans
Darrell Evans had a distinguished major league career that lasted over 20 years with the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers. Evans was a tremendous offensive third baseman for most of his big league tenure, hitting 414 home runs and collecting over 2,000 hits. He holds the unique distinction of being the first player to hit over 40 home runs in a season in the National and American Leagues. Evans had All-Star appearances in 1973 and 1983. He helped the Tigers win a World Series in 1984 and the following year, he became the oldest player in AL history to lead the league in homers. Evans joined Reggie Jackson at the time as the only players to hit at least 100 long balls for three different franchises. He was also noted throughout his career as one of the most patient hitters in the game. Evans retired after the 1989 season and has spent time as a coach since. He is a member of the San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame.
