About Lance Parrish
Lance Parrish is a former professional baseball player and current manager of the Erie SeaWolves. Parrish was offered an athletic scholarship to play football at UCLA, but turned it down to play baseball. The Detroit Tigers drafted Parrish in the 1974 Major League Baseball draft as a third baseman. Parrish played as a catcher for the Lakeland Tigers during his time in the minor leagues. In 1977, Parrish reached the major leagues on a part-time basis. Parrish became the team’s regular catcher in 1979. During the 1980 season, Parrish earned his first American League All-Star team berth and won his first Silver Slugger Award. Parrish was an integral part of the Detroit Tigers’ 1984 world-championship team. Parrish spent 10 years as a Tiger before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent. After two seasons with the Phillies, Parrish fell to the minor league where he spent four seasons with the California Angels. Parrish played the remainder of the 1992 season with the Seattle Mariners before playing with the Cleveland Indians in 1993. In 1994, Parrish played with the Pittsburgh Pirates and finished his playing career in 1195 with the Toronto Blue Jays.
