About Dave Campbell
Dave Campbell played eight seasons in the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros from 1967 to 1974. He got his start in big time baseball as a utility infielder at the University of Michigan and signed with the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1964. During his big league career he was a valuable utility player that could be relied upon during tough defensive and pinch-hit appearances. He also developed a reputation as one of the smartest players in the league. That reputation would eventually lead to him having a successful career in the broadcast booth. After he retired he became the play-byplay man for the San Diego State football and basketball programs. In the 1990’s he made the move to the MLB and began calling Colorado Rockies games. Eventually he worked his way onto ESPN and called Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts. He also made appearances on Baseball tonight and has lent his voice to the popular video game MLB: The Show on PlayStation.
