About David Wright
David Wright was the face of the New York Mets since he made his major league debut in 2004 until his retirement in 2018. Although he signed a baseball scholarship with Georgia Tech he decided to pursue a pro career after being selected in the first round by the Mets in the 2001 MLB Draft. During his three years in the minors he established himself as the Mets third baseman of the future, displaying pure hitting ability and excellent glove work at the hot corner. He won two Gold Gloves, two Silver Slugger Awards and earned seven All-Star selections at third base while also breaking multiple Mets franchise records. In 2013 the Mets named him their franchise captain on the field. In 2009 and 2013 he was selected to represent the United States at the World Baseball Classic. Off the field he has established the David Wright Foundation with the mission to increase awareness of multiple sclerosis and to raise money for multiple sclerosis projects and organizations.
