About Delino DeShields
Delino DeShields played 13 seasons in the big leagues with the Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs from 1990 to 2002. He got his start in pro baseball in 1987 after being selected in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos out of Villanova University, where he starred on both the baseball and basketball teams. During his first year in the bigs he finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting after posting a .289 average and stealing 42 bases. He’d go on to steal 56 bases the following season and steal 463 bases over the course of his career. His best season came in 1997 when he hit a career high .295 with 55 stolen bases and a league leading 14 triples. After retiring from the game as a player he pursued a successful coaching career in the minor leagues and has been a coach and manager in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He also co-founded and serves as the vice president for the Urban Baseball League.
