About Dennis Maruk
Dennis Maruk played 15 seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars, Washington Capitals, Cleveland Barons and California Golden Seals from 1975 to 1989. He got his start in hockey as a junior player in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights and was selected with the 65th overall pick in the 1975 WHA by the Cleveland Crusaders and as the 21st overall pick in the 1975 NHL Draft by the California Golden Seals. During his rookie season with the Golden Seals he became the first rookie in NHL history to score five shorthanded goals in a single season. After one season in California he headed to the Cleveland Barons for two seasons and then played with the Minnesota North Stars before landing with the Washington Capitals for five seasons. During his time with the Capitals he led the league with 60 goals in 1982 and was one of the premier goal scorers in the game. During that season he also added 76 assists for a total of 136 points, which remains a Capitals record to this day. He finished out his NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars from 1983 to 1989. During his decorated career he scored 356 goals to go along with 522 assists for a total of 878 career points in 888 career games.
