About Dennis Oil Can Boyd
Oil Can Boyd, born Dennis Boyd, pitched in the big leagues for 11 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Montreal Expos and Texas Rangers. Oil Can, as he was known by his teammates, compiled a 78 wins and 799 strikeouts during his major league career and won 15 games in 1985 while playing for the Red Sox. That season he posted career highs with 35 starts, 117 strikeouts, 13 complete games and 272.1 innings pitched. The following season he won a career-high 16 games for a total of 31 wins over two seasons. After his career in the big leagues, he returned to pitch in the minors in the 1990s and came out of retirement in 2005 to pitch for the Brockton Rox in the Can-Am League. During his career, he was known for his larger than life personality, which made him one of the most memorable players of his era.
