About Derek Shelton
Derek Shelton is the manager of the Minnesota Twins. Shelton was previously the manager for six seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Shelton's hire in Pittsburgh was the culmination of a 15-year career as a major league coach. He started off in the league as a prominent hitting coach, serving in that role with the Cleveland Indians from 2005-09 and the Tampa Bay Rays from 2010-16. He then spent one year as a quality control coach for the Toronto Blue Jays and two more years as the bench coach for the Minnesota Twins.
Before becoming a big-league coach, Shelton spent three years managing in the New York Yankees minor league system. He was a catcher in the Yankees organization for two years.
