About Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose is the Chicago kid.He grew up in the windy city and starred for most of his career with the Chicago Bulls. D-Rose, as he is known, grew up in a harsh neighborhood in the Englewood area but flourished at Simeon Career Academy, earning McDonald’s All-American honors and becoming the top prep prospect in the country. With NBA talent as a high school senior, many believed he could go straight to the NBA but that would have to wait until after his freshman season at the University of Memphis.
His college career went much like high school, earning All-American honors and leading the Memphis Tigers to a one of the most successful seasons in college basketball history with an impressive 38-2 record. After just one season at Memphis the Bulls selected Rose No. 1 overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, and he’s since made his hometown proud by leading the Bulls to four consecutive playoff appearances from 2009 to 2012. In addition to winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2009 and earning three All-Star selections he was named the 2011 NBA MVP and has averaged 20.8 points per game for his career.
