About Dick Irvin Jr
Dick Irvin Jr. began his broadcasting career in 1966 as a color-commentator for the Canadiens. Throughout the 1970’s and 80’s he served as the lead color commentator and studio host for the popular Hockey Night in Canada telecasts that served as the premier hockey source for the entire country. For three decades he served as a studio and on-ice broadcaster for the CBC network and retired as one of the most popular hockey personalities in history. During his time in the booth he also managed to write five books, including Back to You, Dick in 1988, Behind the Bench in 1993 and My 26 Stanley Cups in 2001. His career honors include being appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2013 for his contributions to hockey as a beloved broadcaster and author, as well as for his charitable activities, being awarded the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, and earning induction into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2004.
