About Eddy Alvarez
Eddy Alvarez has had an amazing athletic journey. Alvarez is a first-generation Cuban-American who grew up in Miami, but yet found a passion for speed skating while also pursuing a baseball career. Alvarez battled through numerous injuries to eventually make the 2014 Olympic Team and earn a silver medal as part of the 5000-meter relay team for the U.S. After achieving success on the ice, he focused on baseball full-time. Alvarez made his major league debut with the hometown Miami Marlins in 2020. He was the first non-baseball Olympian to play in the big leagues since Jim Thorpe. Alvarez was then chosen to join the U.S. Olympic Baseball Team for the Tokyo Game in 2021 and had the additional honor of being Team USA's flag bearer at the Opening Ceremonies.
