Eric Mangini Biography

Eric Mangini is the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.  He is well traveled as an NFL coach, beginning the journey as an offensive assistant for the Baltimore Ravens in 1996.  Most of his notoriety in coaching circles came while winning two Super Bowls as part of the New England Patriots staff.  Mangini would then get two head coaching shots with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.  In his very first season, the Jets finished 10-6 and made the playoffs.  After leaving the Browns in 2010, Mangini spent a few years away from the game as an analyst at ESPN.  The Niners hired him as tight ends coach in 2013 and promoted him to run the defense in 2015.  Mangini is a Hartford, Connecticut native who played collegiately at Division III Wesleyan University.  He holds the schools single-season and career records for sacks.
