Everett Withers

Everett Withers is an American football coach who has been the head coach at North Carolina, James Madison and Texas State. Withers’ coaching career started in 1988 where he was the defensive coordinator for Austin Peay State University. He soon became the coach for wide receivers and special teams at Austin Peay State University. In 1991, Withers became the coach for outside linebackers at Tulane University. The following year, he coached defensive backs at the University of Southern Mississippi. Withers’ first NFL coaching job took place in 1994, where he coached the New Orleans Saints as a defensive quality controller. Withers spent 1995-1997 coaching for the University of Louisville as a defensive coordinator. In 1998, Withers then coached for the University of Texas Austin as an assistant defensive backs coach. Withers returned to the NFL in 2001, where he was the defensive backs coach of the Tennessee Titans, where he stayed until 2006. In 2007, Withers became the defensive coordinator for the University of Minnesota. The next year, Withers became the defensive coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In December 2013, Withers became the head coach at James Madison University. He led the Dukes to two nine-win seasons before departing for Texas State.
