Frank Broyles

Frank Broyles is a former football player, coach, athletics administrator and broadcaster. Broyles attended college at Georgia Tech where he played quarterback from 1944-46. Broyles led Georgia Tech’s football team to four bowl appearances and was named SEC Player of the Year in 1944. In 1946, the Chicago Bears drafted Broyles in the third round of the NFL draft. Broyles began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Baylor University. In 1950, Broyles took the head coach position at the University of Florida. The following year, Broyles returned to Georgia Tech where he became the offensive coordinator. He then became the head coach at Northwestern University. Broyles left Georgia Tech in 1957 when he became the head coach at the University of Missouri. Broyles became the head coach at Arkansas the following year. Broyles’ broadcasting career took off after he retired from Arkansas where he spent 1977-1985 with ABC Sports. In 1974, Broyles became the men’s athletic director at the University of Arkansas. In 1963, Broyles was inducted into the College Hall of Fame and in 1996, the Broyles Award was established to recognize the top assistant coaches in college football.
