About Gary Waters
Gary Waters was the head men’s basketball coach at Cleveland State University for 11 years. Waters started his life in basketball at Ferris Sate University where he played basketball from 1972- 1974. He is now a member of the Ferris State University Hall of Fame. Waters’ first coaching job came in 1974 when he served as the assistant coach at Ferris State. In 1989, he became the assistant coach at Eastern Michigan and remained there until 1996. Waters’ first head coaching position came in 1996 at Kent State University. In 2001, Waters became the head coach at Rutgers University and he helped lead the Scarlett Knights to the NIT tournament final in 2004. On March 1, 2006, Waters announced his resignation from Rutgers and he officially resigned after he coached his last game on March 16, 2006. On April 6, 2006, Waters was named the 15th head coach at Cleveland State University.
