About George Karl
George Karl is a former NBA center and head coach. Karl attended the University of North Carolina where he played on the Tar Heels basketball team. The New York Knicks selected Karl in the 4th round as the 66th overall pick in the 1973 NBA Draft, but he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs of the ABA. He signed with the Spurs in 1973, and when the Spurs joined the NBA in 1976, he began his twoyear NBA playing career. After his playing career ended, Karl became the assistant coach for the Spurs. Karl then coached for the Montana Golden Nuggets of the CBA. While coaching the Golden Nuggets, Karl won CBA Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1983. He has also coached the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Albany Patroons, Real Madrid, Seattle SuperSonics, Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets. He was named the 2013 NBA Coach of the Year and is a four-time NBA All-Star Game head coach.
