About Graig Nettles
Graig Nettles played 22 seasons in the major leagues for six different teams and is best known for his Yankee days from 1973 to 1983 in which he earned five of his six career All-Star selections. Nettles best season came in 1977 when he belted a career high 37 homeruns and drove in 107 runs while scoring 99 times. For his efforts that season he earned the first of his consecutive Gold Glove Awards at third base and finished 5th in the American League MVP voting. He followed that year up with a 6th place finish in the MVP voting after belting 27 homeruns and posting a career high .276 batting average in 1978. Many people sum up Nettles career with one word, consistency. In 1983 he was briefly named the captain of the Yankees and led the Bronx Bombers to two World Series titles. Puff, as he was known by his teammates, was the ALCS MVP in 1981 after hitting .500 in the series. Along with the many legends that wore the pinstripes before him, he is considered to be one of the great Yankees of all-time.
