Greg Swindell

Greg Swindell had a 17-year career as a top left-handed pitching option in relief. Swindell started out on his successful baseball career at the University of Texas. He became one of the great pitchers in the history of college baseball. Swindell compiled a 43-8 record while with the Longhorns and was a three-time finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. He was a three-time All-American and All-Southwest Conference selection. He still holds the UT record for career strikeouts and ranks third all-time in wins. Swindell helped Texas to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the College World Series. After being a first-round pick of the Cleveland Indians in 1986, he made his big league debut later that summer. Swindell has some success as a starting pitcher with the Indians, getting named to the All-Star team in 1989. Later in his career, he was instrumental in the rise of the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a member of their 2001 World Series championship squad before retiring following the 2002 season. In retirement, Swindell has been an assistant coach and broadcaster at Texas. He is a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
