About Houston Nutt
Houston Nutt is a former collegiate football coach and player. As a player, Nutt was a pocket style quarterback at the University of Arkansas, but the arrival of head coach Lou Holtz led to his transfer to Oklahoma State University. Following his graduation, Nutt pursued a coaching career, beginning as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State and Arkansas from 1981 to 1983. He then went on to be an assistant at Arkansas State, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas before being hired to his first head coaching position at Murray State in 1993. He would experience great success with Murray State, posting two straight 11 win seasons in his four years with the school. In 1997, Nutt was hired as head coach at Boise State University to turn around their program, and posted a 5-6 record in his only season. Nutt left Boise State the next season to become the head coach at Arkansas, where he would experience his greatest success, earning three SEC coach of the year awards and posting a 75-48 overall record with two appearances in the SEC title game. Amid NCAA scandal, Nutt resigned from Arkansas, and eventually signed with Ole Miss, coaching for three seasons before being fired in 2011.
