Jameer Nelson joined the Orlando Magic in 2004 after a stellar career at St. Joseph’s University. As a senior in 2004 he led St. Joseph’s to an undefeated 27-0 regular season while earning Consensus First Team All-American and Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year honors. That year he also earned the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award as the nation’s top senior men’s basketball player and swept every national player of the year award. In the 2004 NBA Draft the Denver Nuggets selected Nelson with the 20th overall pick in the 1st round, but he was subsequently traded to the Orlando Magic. During his first year with the Magic in 2004-05 he established himself as one of the league’s top young point guards and earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors. Over the next decade he became one of the premier guards in the league while playing with the Magic, averaging 12.6 points and 5.4 assists a game over the span of 651 games and leading his team to six playoff appearances. In the 2014 off-season he signed a two-year, $5.6 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
