About Jay Hopson
Jay Hopson is the former head football coach at Southern Mississippi University. In his first season on the job, he led the Golden Eagles to a 7-6 record and win at the New Orleans Bowl. Prior to arriving in Hattiesburg, Hopson was the head coach at Alcorn State. In three of his four seasons leading the program, the Braves won at least nine games. Before becoming a head coach, Hopson was on the coaching staff at Michigan for four years. He also had prior experience as an assistant at Southern Miss during two different stints. Hopson has coached at Ole Miss, Marshall and Delta State as well. He was a graduate assistant at Tulane, LSU and Florida. Hopson played four seasons at Ole Miss and was a four-time Academic All-Southeastern Conference selection.
