About Jesus Luzardo
The Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB) employ Jesús Luzardo as their left-handed pitcher. Jesús Luzardo entered the world on September 30, 1997, in Lima, Peru, to parents who originated from Venezuela before he moved to South Florida when young. The Washington Nationals selected Luzardo during the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft after he played at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. After undergoing Tommy John surgery, Luzardo signed with the Nationals and made his professional debut in 2017.
The Oakland Athletics acquired Luzardo in 2017 before he made his MLB debut in 2019. Luzardo spent two seasons with the Athletics before the Miami Marlins acquired him in 2021. The Marlins' 2023 season brought Luzardo his first LatinoMVP Starting Pitcher of the Year award. The 2024 season became limited for Luzardo because of injuries which resulted in a 3–6 record and a 5.00 ERA.
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired Luzardo in December 2024 to strengthen their starting rotation with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez. The club maintains control over Luzardo until 2026 while he becomes eligible for arbitration in 2025.
The community service activities of Luzardo extend beyond his baseball career. Through his family foundation Luzardo donates $100 to youth programs in Philadelphia for each strikeout he records which supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia.
