About Jim Leyland
Jim Leyland is one of the best managers in baseball history. Leyland managed the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Detroit Tigers, establishing a great record of winning everywhere he went. He won the 1997 World Series with the Marlins, three straight division titles with the Pirates, and went to two World Series with the Tigers. Leyland was only the seventh manager to win a National and American league pennant. Three times in his career he won Manager of the Year. Overall, he won 1,769 games in the major leagues. Leyland also served as a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals before finishing his managerial career with the Tigers. As a player, he was a career minor leaguer, but got his coaching start in the minors with the Detroit organization. Leyland’s first big league job came in 1982 when he became the third base coach with Tony LaRussa’s Chicago White Sox. He is currently a special assistant to the general manager with the Tigers.
