About Jim Tracy
Jim Tracy is a baseball guy, which is the highest compliment anyone in the baseball world can receive. He got his start in baseball as a youngster and went on to earn All-American honors while playing at Marietta College in Ohio. After college he played several years in the Chicago Cubs organization and reached the big leagues in 1980. After two seasons in the major leagues he took his talents to Japan and played two more seasons with the Yokohama Taiyo Whales. In 1984 he returned stateside and pursued a successful managerial career in the minor leagues with several organizations. After serving as the bench coach for the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers in 1999 and 2000 he was hired as the manager for the Dodgers in 2001. From 2001 to 2005 he compiled a 427-383 record with the Dodgers and led his team to an NL West title in 2004. After a two-year stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates he was hired to manage the Colorado Rockies in 2009 and earned NL Manager of the Year honors in his first year. He’d go on to manage the Rockies for four seasons from 2009 to 2012, and remains a valuable ambassador of the game around the world.
